The U.N. General Assembly strongly supported a nonbinding Palestinian resolution Wednesday demanding that Israel end its “unlawful presence” in Gaza and the occupied West Bank within a year.

The United Nations General Assembly UNGA is expected to vote on a Palestinian resolution demanding that Israel end what it referred to as an unlawful presence in East Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria,

The vote took place Wednesday on the floor of the United Nations General Assembly. Fourteen countries, including the U.S. and Canada, voted against the resolution.

The UN General Assembly overwhelmingly supports a resolution demanding Israel end its occupation of Gaza and the occupied West Bank within a year, but Australia abstains from the vote.

The vote comes after the UN’s top court said in July that Israel’s presence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem is illegal.
