When a gunman perched atop a cliff’s ledge opened fire on a dozen cars on Kentucky’s Interstate 75, wounding five people, it permeated surrounding communities with fear – and sent one couple into the woods to join the dayslong manhunt for the assailant.

Authorities say a body has been found near the Kentucky site where a gunman opened fire on an interstate highway, hitting a dozen vehicles and wounding five people.

Kentucky State Police troopers and two civilians on Wednesday came across a deceased person police believe to be 32-year-old Joseph Couch, police said.

Investigators believe they have found the body of a man they say shot five people and a dozen cars on an interstate highway in Kentucky this month, state police said Wednesday – ending an 11-day manhunt that stretched deep into the sprawling Daniel Boone National Forest and put surrounding communities on edge.

The couple called themselves “bounty hunters on the hunt.” A day before they found the body of 32-year-old Joseph Couch, who opened fire Sept. 7 on a busy stretch of interstate near Exit 49, about nine miles north of London, the couple told Kentucky state troopers their goal: get Couch off the streets and collect the reward money.

During a press conference Wednesday evening, Kentucky State Police Commissioner Phillip Burnett Junior said this should help put the community at ease.
